This iconic project recreates the experience of living in a bungalow even on the second floor by incorporating the luxury of open outdoor spaces with spacious and comfortable indoor areas. Designed for a young couple and their two kids, the house is a beautiful confluence of various Indian arts and crafts that play a pivotal role in its ultra modern interiors.
The entrance to the house is through a courtyard with a buddha statue underneath a chaffa tree that seems like it extends to the sky through the mural on the wall behind. One side of the courtyard is flanked by a handmade decorative grill that serves as an exemplary display of dhokra craft from Bastar, Chhattisgarh.
The daughter’s room is subtly dominated by different shades of her favorite color pink with a poster bed and sheer curtains to complete the fairytale look. The furniture and the doors have floral motifs cut into the veneer. The dressing room wraps around the entrance courtyard at the upper level thus bringing in a lot of daylight while also allowing an eye level view of the chaffa tree and the birds mural.
The courtyard has an entrance into the drawing room and another one into the living room. The focal wall of the drawing room is adorned with a geometric rendition of intricate belgian glass work, a traditional craft from Rajasthan, known as Thikri and used extensively in its palaces and havelis. With the touch of a button, the drawing room converts into a home theater with a drop down screen, projector and sound system.
Just above the entrance, a mezzanine floor divides the double storey space and houses the puja room with a hand painted backdrop and an arched wooden frame with geometric carvings inspired from the woodward in ladakh.
