Shraamdan

Site Area: 6 Acre
Built Up Area: 1000sqft
Year of completion: 2016

SHRAMDAAN is a retail store and exhibition space for handloom garments manufactured by ‘HATHKARGHA’- which is an initiative started to skill rural and tribal people in the traditional craft of hand weaving fabrics. It has been started with a vision to improve employability and earning capacity of rural population and with an aim to ensure fair compensation to the weaver

The site is located in the ancient heritage city of KHAJURAHO, right outside the Jain temple complex, which is a UNESCO world heritage monument. Strict ASI norms applicable at the site rendered it illegal to have any permanent construction at the site. In order to reflect the ethics deep-rooted in the vision of the organization, a structure handcrafted in Bamboo was envisioned which itself is a piece of art.

The plan is rectangular, 30ft by 50ft, divided into 6 bays, each created by means of a bamboo truss. The front 4 bays are dedicated to the products display and exhibit area. At one end, there is a live display of the weaving process.
